The cardigan looks gorgeous, and what a wonderful idea to knit with tapestry yarn! I'd never thought of doing that. The colors turned out so well. I've shared your post with my readers in my Tuesday post because I know they'll be interested to hear about your process!
Gorgeous and I love how you have managed to make the colours work so well together. I have this pattern on my “want to make” list too, but have not had the courage to start it. Colour work in rows freaks me out.
If it helps you give it a try, each square is only around 30ish stitches (depending on the size you pick, the size 2 I'm working on at the moment is 36 stitches across). So it's not too much of a commitment if you try a couple of squares and then decide it's not for you!
I love this so much. I have 2 questions. 1) Where do you buy your mohair? I like to use it regularly too and need a good sustainable source. 2) I notice the top middle square in the back is wider than the rest - is that a result of knitting the neck band? It’s an interesting construction and I would like to try it with my own scraps! Nicely done, Amy.
Hello! For question 1 - I would love a reliably sustainable source of mohair too but I've always bought Drops Kidsilk from Knitted Home: https://knittedhome.com/. They're a British based company who only sell natural fibres. Drops have a sustainability page on their website, which states their yarn is sourced sustainably and from countries that can guarantee no mulesing, with as much traceability as possible. Their sustainability page is here: https://www.garnstudio.com/sustainability.php?cid=19
I never know how much to trust big companies with this stuff (is it all just green washing?) but it's that balance between affordability and voting with your wallet to encourage large companies, who ultimately hold more power, to change for the better versus supporting a small independent yarn producer who may have higher environmental/sustainability/welfare credentials but will be more expensive and thus I'll be able to support them less frequently. I don't know how to square that circle to be honest! I figure I thrift 90% of my yarn and use Drops Kidsilk for the rest, often to make thrifted yarn more usable in my knitting practice.
For question 2 - all the squares are knit the same, I think that top middle back square has been forced out of shape by the neckline and the weight of the sleeves. It wasn't intentionally knit like that!
It’s amazing, I really 😻 love it
Thank you so much!
