This edition of Thod (my new acronym for Thrifted & Handmade Outfit of the Day) includes a dog walk on a beach, complete with bone-chilling wind, a trip to the allotment, complete with bone-chilling wind, and a work trip, complete with pishing rain. Overall though, I’m happy that I managed to maintain some semblance of style, whilst keeping comfortable, dry, and (mostly) warm.
Look one (it seems silly to separate them by days, when these outfits span a couple of weeks and are a selection of looks that represent the overall whole): allotment trip
Thrifted: overalls that belonged to my husband but are now firmly mine, as the Wielder of Power tools in our household
Handmade: ancient cable knit scarf. According to my Ravelry, I made the precursor to this scarf in 2007 and promptly lost it, re-knitting it in 2010. It was a Craftster pattern, for those old enough to remember that incredible forum (RIP) / Helens Closet Wildwood vest / green cable knit sweater from a vintage knitting pattern from circa 2014 or similar
Look two: new knitwear just dropped!
Handmade: I’ll be writing this up in a future blog post, but this is the Aimee Sher Back to School Vest in thrifted green yarn / Deer & Doe Melilot shirt that is destined for Vinted I think
Thrifted: M&S via Cancer Research jeans
Handmade: Same as above but with my Modern Sewing Company navy over shirt layered on top
I’m not a fan of the fabric I used for the Melilot shirt, it always looks rumpled and makes me feel unkempt. I’m going to pop it on Vinted and try again with different fabric, I definitely think a white shirt would be a good work horse in my wardrobe.
Look three: beach dog walk
Handmade: PetiteKnit Oslo hat / Closet Core Ginger jeans with visible mending / Aimee Sher Back to School Vest / Modern Sewing Company Over shirt
Thrifted: Trespass down jacket via Vinted
Look four: work trip
I experimented with a couple of looks, but ultimately ended up ditching the denim jacket for the more practical waterproof, due to the aforementioned rain pishing.
Thrifted: Levis shearling denim jacket via Vinted
Handmade: Modern Sewing Company tartan wool over shirt / Closet Core Morgans from an Ikea curtain
Look five: dinner date
Same look as above but with the handmade PetiteKnit Stockholm sweater. I did wear this out for dinner, so it wasn’t an entirely wasted fit, even though I initially took these photos whilst trying to work out what to wear for a work visit. I chose an M&S white shirt that’s really too long to be worn under a sweater (it’s designed to be breezy and open over a vest in summer) over my Melilot shirt, which was the final nail in the coffin for that piece. Off to Vinted and/or the charity shop it goes!
