It’s just stunning! Now you’ve got me thinking that I might makes one with some special yarn I’ve ordered to be held double with some alpaca from my stash… Hmm…
That makes so much sense. I looked at the pattern and it calls for worsted weight yarn but if I go with my plan of two held together, a 4ply + lace I think I might get DK?
But since it’s a shawl I’m thinking it might matter less as I can keep adjust numbers if stitches accordingly….??
What do you think Amy? I’m a relatively new knitter so grateful for any advice.
I think it's the perfect project for a slight variation in the weight of yarn. If you're going DK rather than worsted, your shawl might be slightly thinner/shorter than the pattern version, but ultimately so long as it meets your needs, it doesn't really matter! It's not a fitted garment, so once you get to the point where you're directed to reduce the stitches instead of increase, you can carry on increasing until you get to the width you want. Hope that helps!
It’s a beautiful scarf Amy and a gorgeous colour too. I think I’m going to follow your example and be more intentional with my own knitting. So often I end up making something that I hardly ever wear.
It's easy to do, isn't it? We all get caught up in the excitement of knitting, it's easy to forget to ask yourself whether you even want the final object! But sometimes it's nice to just knit something and then give it away if it's not for you in the end, it's about the journey of knitting
It's one of those projects that a pattern designer like you can probably hack from the Sophie Scarf! It's basically the same, just scaled up. I just didn't trust myself to do the maths properly!
It's so gorgeous! The mohair was a great choice to deepen the colour. I completely agree with you about thrifted yarn - I love the creative challenge of finding the perfect use for it, but I do sometimes get frustrated with needing to find a pattern to fit the yardage rather than being able to perfectly plan a project
I've definitely knit some dodgy things in the past, just to 'use up' yarn that's been gifted or I've bought second hand. Sometimes the pattern matching comes easily and I need to learn to recognise when I'm forcing it!

And the colour looks amazing too!
Thank you! It's a lovely project for special stash yarn I think, the yarn is the main attraction because there's no distraction from the pattern

That helps a lot! Thanks Amy.

That’s true too… I give plenty away!
I'm the same, I often fall in love with a pattern and race to knit it, without stopping to think if I will actually wear it.
I've done this more times than I would like to count!
That looks fabulous. I'm a huge fan of holding yarn doubled - you can get such interesting fabrics that way.
I've knit a Sophie Scarf before but not the shawl version. The time may have come.

Beautiful
Thank you! ♥️

This is really beautiful, Amy! Love the colour and texture.
Thank you! I was very lucky to be gifted such beautiful silk yarn!
