That garden looks amazing! I think your clematis is a montana. You should be able to cut it right down and it will soon romp away again, but it will need a bit of recovery time. I know the overwhelm feeling - we've been in our house for almost 6 years now and still struggle o be on top of things. I can say though, that the longer you live with something that's 'liveable with', the less likely you are to tackle it! (If you're anyth8ng like us, that is!).
Thank you! We're very lucky to have inherited some lovely and well established plants from the previous owner, I'm spending my days with Google lens trying to identify everything! Thanks for your clematis advice, I will definitely be putting that to good use when the time comes!
I thought my mother’s neighbours had assassinated the clematis that my dad had planted and got very sad and cross as he had just died and it was a rubbish echo of loss. However, even though it was down to a stump, by the next year it was back up the fence and two years later just as rampant as before, so I have high hopes for yours
I'm really glad your dad's clematis is doing so well! I'm hoping mine can have this summer season, and then maybe next year when we move the fence I'll do a mega-chop and move it. The previous owner knew what he was doing, there are flowering rhododendrons immediately behind the clematis and the effect is amazing!
