The past couple of weeks have been busy and stressful, the type where I am so grateful for the solace of hobbies. A gym-and-podcast session, a run in the chilly, fresh, spring air, a new knitting project or an hour spent sewing all help keep me feeling balanced. I’ve been playing a lot of Zelda (I’m still on Breath of the Wild, despite it coming out in 2017) and enjoying a new knitting project.
We visited the in-laws in Inverness, where I tried a new-to-me running route along the canal. It was the perfect chilly day, with the scent of wood smoke on the air.
I bought the Heirloom Quilt Cardigan by Katryn Seeburger and have been enjoying the odd hour here and there, knitting up my squares in front of the TV. I experimented with the yarn held double with burgundy mohair, pictured above, but I’m on the fence about it, since you can’t easily see the star motif. I’ve just bought some white mohair and I’m going knit up some contrasting squares, then decide which to continue with and frog the other.
The reason this cardigan project jumped up the list is because I was very kindly gifted a job lot of tapestry yarn. I love this to knit with, it’s 100% wool DK weight and makes a great Stash Dive Scarf (scroll to the end of this post to see one of two I knit during lock down). I spent a pleasant half hour in front of the fire in my in-laws house, sorting through a box of craft supplies, then sorting the yarn into the autumnal colourway I’m planning for my cardigan.
In amongst this box of beautiful craft notions, was an incomplete piece of tapestry. I wanted to experiment with sewing it into a zippered notions pouch, as a possible future Craft & Thrift shop idea. I love the result, it has a very 1970s vibe. I gifted this one to a work pal who did me a favour, but I’ll definitely be making more.
Whilst up north with the in-laws, we found a new-to-us independent coffee shop. Dog and vegan friendly, it ticked all our boxes. It’s called Perk for anyone interested in coffee in Inverness and is a cafe by day, bar by night, plus bakes delicious pastries and doughnuts.
Here’s hoping the next installment of Notes from the Week will come to you in a less overwhelmed state!
I love the little notions pouch! And that tapestry yarn stash looks fabulous!
