Realised today, as I was searching Amazon.co.jp for a specific book (I love using their 'read sample' feature they have for lots of books, so you can see inside before buying it at an independent retailer ;-) ), that Amazon Japan has a category for Kimono Textiles and Crafts! Here's the link: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/bestsellers/books/2439891051/ref=zg_b_bs_2439891051_1 and it shows books focussing on all kinds of things to do with kimono refashioning.

Such a generous and beautiful gift your friend has made. Wonderful to think that I might be able to see some of these stunning garments in the future at the Museum of Scotland.

I really hope you get to see them sometime, they're so beautiful!

So beautiful! And how wonderful the collection has found a great home. I’m in Japan now and fascinated to see books about remaking kimono (obvs the more day to day ones) into other garments or accessories to wear more often than kimono.

That must be so inspiring, to be in Japan and reading about remaking kimono, in the home of kimono! From what little I've read, it seems there's a real history of reusing kimono fabric, I'm hoping to do a bit more research before I use the kimono Moira very kindly gave me. Are there any books you would recommend?

I haven’t bought any yet, but I’ve seen books both online and in person, for both making them into bags and into clothes. Here’s one I’ve been tracking on EBay for clothes (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196131689848?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=19GyX7nGQuu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=xHZWeTzFSxa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) , next time I am in a bookstore I’ll try and find some other ones too and take photos. Anything you’re keen or not keen on?

Thank you so much for that link! Any references on reusing kimono fabric in clothing would be amazing!

Saw a book in the bookshop today about remaking kimono, much as I don’t like linking to/buying from Amazon, it’s website allows you to have a peek inside: https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E7%9D%80%E3%82%8B%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8C%E6%A5%BD%E3%81%97%E3%81%84%E7%9D%80%E7%89%A9%E3%83%AA%E3%83%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%82%AF%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8D%E3%81%BB%E3%82%93-%E5%9F%BA%E6%9C%AC%E3%81%A8%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AC%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B8%E3%81%A7%E4%BD%9C%E3%82%8B26%E3%81%AE%E6%9C%8D%E3%81%A8%E5%B0%8F%E7%89%A9-%E8%97%A4%E5%B2%A1-%E5%B9%B8%E5%AD%90/dp/4023333476/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2LRHYGZC2DAP&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1A-v2UVgOx7Vp9Daxny8wuFwiInR_ETt63QYPLBgijil7VVQCKSGeOc7oGcdzLcMAqFaCGDFyxeqwOZOjCFYwflAc-HQ0dyi2eh5PK7ufFEzK6ArJnuRD4rvQo9Uz0aB-VrsoxP-LCmJq84fdcK6kNYpUe5k0FOcxNyLG6wb2_HA6BlV18RSx14ruIibMuoq1KqVA1kjqsgMUSaCnUpFyA.dkFMx0jsmI4FyAX7wZAY_P0iZGoYI8_077s8J4PMebI&dib_tag=se&keywords=%E7%9D%80%E3%82%8B%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8C%E6%A5%BD%E3%81%97%E3%81%84%E7%9D%80%E7%89%A9%E3%83%AA%E3%83%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%82%AF%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8D%E3%81%BB%E3%82%93+%E5%9F%BA%E6%9C%AC%E3%81%A8%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AC%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B8%E3%81%A7%E4%BD%9C%E3%82%8B26%E3%81%AE%E6%9C%8D%E3%81%A8%E5%B0%8F%E7%89%A9&qid=1708592266&sprefix=%E7%9D%80%E3%82%8B%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8C%E6%A5%BD%E3%81%97%E3%81%84%E7%9D%80%E7%89%A9%E3%83%AA%E3%83%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%82%AF%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8D%E3%81%BB%E3%82%93+%E5%9F%BA%E6%9C%AC%E3%81%A8%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AC%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B8%E3%81%A7%E4%BD%9C%E3%82%8B26%E3%81%AE%E6%9C%8D%E3%81%A8%E5%B0%8F%E7%89%A9%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-3
