Is pegboard available in the UK? It might be easier to mount sheets of that on the remaining wall rather than ripping the old wall covering out and installing new. You will need to attach it with spacers behind it (lath?) to accommodate the ends of the hooks. But you will then have a variety of holes and types of hooks & bins you can attach and rearrange as needed. It is beloved by people storing tools etc. above a workbench here in the US.

I like this idea! Part of the issue is not wanting anything (including what's on the wall e.g. pegboard) to protrude too far out, to avoid you knocking into it as you go in and out of the cupboard. But it's definitely worth investigating!

I envy your home improvement skills! That vundersdtairs cupboard is a thing of beauty. I am always fearful of huge spiders in those sort of spaces!

Thank you! Spiders don't bother me thankfully, I figure we're all creatures of the gods 🙏🏼 Also, I like to consider them as people with their own characters and inner lives. Like, "there's Bruce sitting in the corner watching me hoover. He's going through a divorce after catching his wife Nancy cheating with the nextdoor neighbour". It helps humanise them and makes them less scary!

Loved the book! I read it before the movie came out, so may be biased because of that, but enjoyed it more than the movie. 😉
